2023 - Changes to our 10-treat tickets
From today, 27 June 2023, our 10-Treat Tickets will change.
To keep things simple, there’ll be just one variety that will let you choose from our Essentials and Occasions ranges, as well as Face The World facial treatments, at a single price - just $950 including GST for 600 minutes of flexible treatment time.
That means you’ll be able to choose the treatment you want for any session without worrying about which package you’ve bought. You’ll continue to collect reward stamps as before, with a FREE midweek hour when you’ve filled a card.
And you’ll be able to request your favourite therapist (if available) at no extra cost - so you can now save up to 25% on our regular pricing for our most requested staff!
You can still upgrade to a Divine Interventions session with Hot Stone for just $20 per person.
Obviously existing Essentials and Occasions 10-Treat Tickets remain valid for their duration - and when they’re done, any unused minutes can be applied to your new 10-Treat Ticket.
What better way to treat yourself, your family and friends?
Inflation bites - well, it nibbles.
It had to happen, and it has - after keeping our base pricing unchanged for more than 3 years, you’ll notice we’ve moved the price of our Essentials, Occasions and Face The World treatments, by around 10%.
We all face rising costs, our staff are now paid almost twice the hourly rate we started on (we’re proud of that), and we still offer great value in a premium setting.
Our Specials now deliver even better value - where else can you spend an hour as a couple with two expert therapists for less than $200?
And our 10-Treat Tickets are exceptional - 10 hours at an average of $90 per hour, plus a bonus treatment - a saving of up to 30%!
If you already hold a gift voucher, we’ll honour that for the stated treatment at no additional cost - if the booking system asks you for a top-up, give us a call or drop us an email. Or pay the difference, and we’ll sort you out a credit.
We’ve tried to keep Mai Day Spa affordable for everyone - and we remain committed to that.
Welcome back everyone!
We’re delighted to be able to welcome all our customers back, irrespective of your vax status, with the retirement of My Vaccine Pass requirements from 5 April.
They’ve served us well - not a single case among our staff, nor passed on among our customers - but we’re all really glad it’s over. Vaccination might save your life but it won’t stop you getting Omicron - we rely on other things for that. Like HEPA filtration, CO2 monitoring, N95 masking and RATs.
And while case numbers are where they are, we’re still asking our customers to wear masks during treatment - Omicron’s not going away anytime soon. Some of you we know are immune-compromised, and the measures in place here help keep everyone safe.
Should a variant emerge that means vaccination and boosters can be important in inhibiting spread, we may revisit our vaccination policy. Meanwhile, with Omicron, they’re not.
So thank you for your understanding and for abiding by these precautions while we’ve had to. We’ve all made it through, thanks to you and the crew. Better times ahead!
Our vaccination policy updated
Three weeks ago we introduced our vaccination policy, even though we’re shut, to signal that to help protect everyone here, we’ll need all customers at MAI DAY SPA to have had a shot. With elimination now off the table, and close to 90% of Aucklanders at least single-jabbed, we’re taking that a step further.
When conditions allow us to reopen we’ll be asking our customers to indicate they are FULLY IMMUNISED against COVID-19. That means people will need to have had both shots of the Pfizer or another approved vaccine, at least 14 days before a booking. Of course all our staff are fully immunised already.
Full current vaccination is now a condition of entry to MAI DAY SPA.
The only exceptions will be children under the minimum age they’re able to be protected, on a case by case basis.
You can check your vaccination details here, at My Covid Record. Very soon you’ll be able to download an app that clearly displays your vaccination status, and we’ll ask you to show that to us once. We’ll also ask you to note the date of your last jab, to ensure that as immunity wanes over time and booster shots become available, we know that everyone’s up to date.
We appreciate that some may find this requirement intrusive, and we simply ask you to consider the implications for our staff and customers of a COVID case here, in a close contact environment. It’s a risk we’re not prepared to take, for our business, and our people.
Also please note that if you’re giving someone a gift voucher, they’ll need to meet these requirements before they can redeem their gift. And this is a great way to celebrate that!
Meanwhile, if you haven’t had your second shot, now’s a great time to do it - and we’ll see you when we’re back!
Our vaccination policy
Mai Day Spa is all about a blissful experience in the most professional environment we can offer, with rigorous attention to hygiene and safety in the world we now face. Our staff are masked, and have been since the last lockdown in February - we've never let up on that. All have now had a double dose of the Pfizer vaccine - we haven't had to insist on this, all our staff agree it's vital in the close environment in which we work.
Now we're inviting our customers to do their bit, and are asking all who visit us to have had
at least their first dose of vaccine. Covid is not yet eliminated in our community, and although the risk is small that someone will spread the Delta variant on our premises to either customers or staff, we'd rather not leave that to chance. We'll ask you to indicate that you're vaccinated, and trust that you're comfortable with that.
We accept that the decision to have a vaccination is a personal choice, and one that we hope everyone makes who can. There are some people who are unable to be vaccinated - customers do sometimes bring their kids! And some people have health conditions that make vaccination unwise. If you're one, we may ask you to wear a mask - they're available for anyone.
If you've made a decision to take your chance with Covid and not worry about the virus and its effects on yourself and others, you're at liberty to make your choice. But at Mai Day Spa, we'll welcome you when you've made a different decision - or when Covid is again safely gone.
Meanwhile, our loyal customers can rest assured that our staff, and anyone they've encountered in their place of work, are as well protected as possible from contact with Covid.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Lockdown days return...
Since Wednesday 18 August we’ve been back at Level 4 - and we’ll be shut until a return to Level 2 or lower.
Firstly, thanks to everyone who we’ve encouraged to sign in here using the Covid Tracer app - a step that we understand will become mandatory by the time we reopen. We often felt like we were the only people in town asking for that but this week it will have proven its worth. So far we have had no indication that anyone has visited us with Covid-19 but if we receive any advice of that we’re in a good position to identify anyone at all who may be at risk, either directly or via our staff, and you’ll be first to know. So far, so good, and the practices we’ve continued to employ - air exchange in rooms, alcohol wipedowns and rigorous general hygiene - mean that we’re highly unlikely to be involved in spreading this outbreak.
Secondly, as a Living Wage Employer we’ll be paying our staff in full for as long as it takes - possibly for some weeks. We’ll top up the Wage Subsidy we get so our staff receive their contracted or expected earnings, for as long as humanly possible. We hope other employers take the same stance.
And thanks to our landlord, Samson Corporation, for once again leaning into our Covid response with a rent reduction - it’s a generous stance that we hope others have emulated, that helps us emerge in one piece.
We take the view that it’s better to keep the Delta strain out than “live with it“ and we’re battening down the hatches to sit this one out. Best wishes, keep safe, see you when it’s over!
STILL THE BEST IN BODY TREATMENTS!
To reflect the rising costs of product and staff, we’re making some adjustments to the pricing of our more elaborate offerings. We know they still represent excellent value, and we’ve maintained the pricing of our Essentials and Occasions range, so a treatment at MAI DAY SPA is as affordable as ever!
At MAI DAY SPA we source only the finest, unadulterated food grade products - if you wanted to eat our pure cocoa body balm, or bake with our organic extra virgin coconut massage oil, you could! But the best ingredients are not getting any cheaper, and in times of constrained supply we need to cover our costs.
Our staff continue to be among the best rewarded in the industry, for good reason - they’re the absolute best we can find. We appreciate their efforts and we know our customers do too.
Thank you for your understanding, and do keep an eye on our regular Special deals!
PRICING AND SERVICE ADJUSTMENTS
For the first time since opening more than two years ago, MAI DAY SPA is making some limited adjustments to our pricing and discount policies.
Obviously our costs are rising, and staff shortages mean weekend appointments are at a premium. We’ve made some changes to our Specials, and altered our policy on rebook discounts and 10-Stamp redemptions.
From this month on, rebooks for our regular treatments (excluding Specials) made on the same day as the current appointment will attract a 10% discount for WEEKDAY SESSIONS ONLY. You’ll continue to enjoy a stamp toward your FREE 10-Stamp Single Session, which can now be REDEEMED ON A WEEKDAY, or waitlisted for a weekend slot. A pre-booked weekend appointment will attract normal pricing, but your free session can be held until a slot is available that suits.
For our valued regular customers, perhaps now‘s the time to consider our 10-Treat Ticket, Essentials or Occasions, for a 15% saving on bookings at any time.
As an accredited Living Wage Employer, we’ll be passing on the benefit of these changes to our hard-working staff. We think they’re worth a little extra, and we hope you do too.
HERE WE GO AGAIN…
With the move back to Alert Level 3 announced tonight, Mai Day Spa will be closed for the duration, until a return to Level 2 or better. The initial period of lockdown is 7 days, taking us to the end of Saturday 6 March. It may well extend.
If you have a booking within the next week that’s unable to occur, you’re welcome to go online and rebook, or call us and we’ll find a future slot that suits.
If you’ve prepaid either in full or a partial deposit, we’ll hold that in credit pending a reschedule unless you’d specifically like it refunded, as our terms of trade allow. A gift voucher remains valid to be redeemed at a future date.
Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause - we’re all in this together.
Take care, keep safe.
A WORD ON A COVID EVENT
Mai Day Spa wishes to stand behind our colleagues in the industry grappling with the risk of inadvertently treating a customer who has COVID, and putting others at risk. This is a distressing situation for all, and we hope it never happens to us.
Since the pandemic began we have fortified our rigorous cleaning protocols - as usual, all linen is washed after each treatment, and 70% isopropyl alcohol is always used after every session to disinfect the area around the "face hole" that Wade Williams described on CNN below. Air in our treatment rooms is exchanged for 10 minutes before the next customer enters, and our staff wear masks throughout our interactions. Masks are available for anyone who wishes to wear one. We make safety a priority, as we're sure others do.
Under our privacy terms, we may share client info with health officials if required, and will not hesitate to do so if we are notified of someone who, knowingly or not, has visited us and later returned a positive test. Of course we do not accept visits from people required to isolate.
This will be with us for some time. So please, take care, stay safe and make sure you sign in using the MoH Covid Tracer app! You will not catch COVID here.

A CHANGE TO OUR TERMS OF SERVICE
Please note we’ve made some changes to our policy around schedule changes and refunds.
Some services and group bookings, especially those involving a substantial allocation of our staff time on busy days, now require the payment of a deposit at the time of booking, typically 25%.
This deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE if the appointment fails to take place, or is cancelled or rescheduled within 20 hours of the allotted time, onto a different day.
As a Living Wage employer, our staff are paid for every hour they spend on the job. Unfortunately we have had a recent increase in last-minute cancellations that leave us scrambling to make productive use of everyone’s time.
We understand that unforeseen events can sometimes occur, so if you have a compelling reason to defer an appointment please call us.
Level 1 returns!
Once again we’re back in Alert Level 1. So what’s changed for us? Nothing much.
Our staff will continue to wear masks and conduct our usual rigorous Covid-era hygiene steps, and everyone will be encouraged to sign in using the Covid Tracer app. And if you feel comfortable wearing a mask during treatment, they’re available for your use.
So we’re moving forward with caution and care. See you soon!
We're back!
As Auckland steps back to Alert Level 2 Mai Day Spa will reopen on Tuesday 1 September.
From then on we'll employ the Level 2 protocols from last time - avoiding close contact between customers by staggering appointments, plus our staff will wear masks and conduct our usual rigorous Covid-era hygiene steps, and everyone will be encouraged to sign in using the Covid Tracer app. And if you feel comfortable wearing a mask during treatment, we're all for that.
Hope to see you soon!
Here we go again...
With a return to Alert Level 3, Mai Day Spa will be closed at least until the weekend. We’ve contacted any clients affected with bookings over these days, but weekend bookings are currently uncertain and depend on government decisions on whether or not to extend the current lockdown.
Our terms of sale promise that if you wish to cancel an appointment you’ve already paid for online, then you may ask us for a full refund. Alternatively, we’re happy to hold a credit, or issue a gift voucher to use at a later date or pass on.
Until we know more, keep safe, be kind, and see you again soon.
We're ready for you now!
With a move to Alert Level 1 seemingly imminent, and a rearrangement of the way we organise booking slots, you’re now welcome to come straight upstairs for your appointment.
But as before, please either head for the bathroom to wash your hands on arrival, or use the hand sanitiser provided at reception.
See you soon!
We're back!
As New Zealand moves to COVID-19 Alert Level 2 Mai Day Spa will reopen from Thursday 14 May.
We’ve all had a bit of time to think about how we operate with the threat of COVID-19 still possibly around us, and there are some changes to how we’ll work in this new environment:
Please arrive no earlier than a few minutes before your appointment and wait in your car until you get a text message from us
We’ll text you a couple of minutes before your appointment to minimise the risk of interacting with others on the way in or out - we need to keep customers a metre apart
Please head straight for the bathroom and wash your hands, or use the hand sanitiser provided at reception
Please ensure you give correct contact details and disclose any health concerns on the form provided
Our therapists will wear a mask during treatment, as they began to do in the early weeks of the crisis. Masks are available for you if you wish, although they’re not mandatory.
At this stage there seems to be no restriction on couple bookings - you know one another, and contact tracing, should it ever be needed, is straightforward.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Don't Miss Mothers Day!
Assuming we all move to COVID-19 Alert Level 2 soon after 11 May, we plan to reopen from 14 May with our full range of services - and some exciting new ones, to be announced!
And we’ve launched our 2020 Mothers Day Voucher Special - 45 Minute Facial and your choice of 45 minutes of Deep Tissue or Relaxation Massage in one value bundle - just $119!
We’re already taking lots of bookings, so if you need a post-lockdown treat (and you so deserve it) book now!
A NOTE ON PRIVACY
It now seems possible that we will transition from Level 4 lockdown to Level 3 more or less as planned after 4 weeks. We hope that will allow personal care and wellness businesses such as MAI DAY SPA to reopen subject to the kinds of strict measures we had in place for weeks prior to lockdown. Everyone’s looking tired, everyone needs their hair sorted - so we can’t imagine that activities that require personal proximity will need to stay closed forever!
The government has given a clear indication that the ability to trace contacts will be a vital part of a qualifying process to resume. Our customers will know that we retain contact information from each visit and always have - online bookings contain numbers and emails, registration forms allow us to maintain details of others who weren’t necessarily the person who made the booking. That information is kept strictly confidential and is never shared, nor will it be.
However our Terms and Conditions have always allowed the sharing of such data with government agencies if legally required, and although none of us could have predicted COVID-19, it is one such instance where we may receive a request for information if someone testing positive for COVID-19 has visited us at some point. Under these extraordinary circumstances, we will be required to pass relevant contact details to health authorities to enable contract tracing, which our systems are able to provide. We have had no such requests to date.
We hope you are reassured by that - while we’re confident that our measures will prevent any possible transmission here, it’s good to know that if there is any chance at all of a COVID-19 contact close to our clients or staff, there is a clear path to contact and test anyone likely to be affected, if considered necessary.
Thanks for your support and we hope to be able to welcome you again soon!
